Houston Meadow Trail Work

Regardless of where you park, be sure to refrain from leaving any valuables in your car.
There may be limited bathroom access during the service day.
Did you know we have over 50 miles of trails weaving their way through Wissahickon Valley Park? It takes a lot of work to keep them in good shape for our many park user groups! Our trained Crew Leaders are the primary corps of volunteers to look after them, working together in small groups of Zone Stewards in different sections of the park. This Saturday, we’re bringing extra volunteer support to the Houston Meadow section of the park to help tend to a variety of projects.
All are welcome to attend, and no experience is needed. We encourage attendees to work within their own comfort level, and we always strive to accommodate needs on an individual basis. With that being said, this service day may include the following activities:
• Trail work: carrying and using long-handled tools, moving and placing large rocks, cutting back overgrowth
• Invasive plant removal: bending over, using sharp tools
• Litter clean-up
• Repetitive motions
We provide gloves, tools, and instruction–you just need to show up! Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and long pants, and remember to bring water with you. Detailed information and confirmation of the meeting location will be sent by email the day before the event.
