Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens: Rhododendron Ramble
Taught by Steve Wright, Director of Horticulture/Curator of Plant Collections at Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens, and presented by Morris Arboretum & Gardens.
Since opening the garden gates in 1976, Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens has built a remarkable collection of plants in the Ericaceae (heath) family, including the stars of their spring display— rhododendrons and azaleas! Enjoy a tour through the woodland gardens that are bursting with color because of these sensational shrubs, complemented by diminutive woodland wildflowers. The ever-expanding collection includes evergreen azaleas, large-leaf rhododendrons, and native deciduous azaleas. Explore the differences between rhododendrons and azaleas, check out some unique hybrids, and gain tips for growing them in your home garden. Learn about the conservation goals behind Jenkins’ nationally accredited rhododendron collection. Wear comfortable shoes with good traction to traverse the sometimes hilly trails.
