Creature Feature: Discoveries in New Guinea

Start

Tim Laman/National GeographicSo, I was gonna write a post about the gulf oil spill’s drift into the Atlantic Ocean, and how I might just be having a side of slick with my Back Bay crab cakes this summer, but then I saw this. And it made me happy.

A group of scientists recently returned from a remote area of New Guinea. They hit biological pay dirt, discovering nine new species, including a Cyrano de Bergerac frog and a pigeon that gives me Hypercolor flashbacks.

A gallery of astounding images is available at National Geographic’s site.

(Not enough animal action for ya? Check out these sloths.)
