Stroud Preserve is a mosaic of grasslands, working farmlands, and woodlands that serves as a unique site for scientific research, education, and recreation. The needs of people and nature are balanced through careful stewardship of both cultivated and “wild” areas, restoration of vital wildlife habitat, and protection of Stroud’s wetlands and streams. These waterways travel downstream to the Delaware River, providing drinking water for millions of people.

  • Autumn Avian Adventures – Murmuration & Migrations

    Natural Lands’ diverse habitats sustain a variety of avian species. We’ll look for migratory and resident birds, including songbirds, raptors, and more.    Bring your binoculars and join us for a seasonal walk around one of our preserved open spaces.    The songbirds, raptors, waterfowl, and shorebirds—about 300 recorded species—that rely on habitats under Natural Lands care are not just beautiful but also essential to the health of our planet.   • Fall Festival & Connect

    Join us for a fun-filled afternoon at Stroud Preserve as we celebrate the crisp autumn season with our NextGen Council. Our second annual Fall Festival brings together a selection of local artisans and vendors in Stroud’s charming barnyard space, the perfect setting for an afternoon of community, creativity, and cheer.  Festival highlights:  Local artisans and vendors*: Explore handmade goods, unique crafts, and locally sourced products from talented artisans and vendors in the community.  All ages craft corner: Enjoy creative activities for all ages, including pressed flora/funga designs, flower crowns, and other festive seasonal fun.  Costume contests: Dress you and your furry friend (well-behaved, leashed pets only)

  • Writers’ Circle: Inkcaps, Moss, & Manuscripts

    Schedule your time to create among community. Join this brand-new autumnal series as we travel throughout Natural Lands’ preserves and take inspiration from the surrounding landscape and other writers.   Gather and bring your current projects (be they manuscripts of novels, poetry, or beyond), for a set hour of uninterrupted writing time. Afterward, we will gather in a closing circle, when you are welcome to share excerpts of your work, or use this time to bounce ideas off others.   Event breakdown:  5:30 – 5:45 PM – arrival time, settle in and claim your space  5:45 – 6:00 PM –

  • Splish Splash!

    Come out and splash in Brandywine Creek! Squish in the mud, swish your toes in the water, and splash your friends. Kids and adults are invited to play in the stream, relax, and enjoy the last days of summer.  While it might just seem like child’s play, this type of unstructured exploration of the natural world is important to kids’ physical, mental, and emotional development. What’s more, we believe that children who play in nature grow up to be adults who protect it.  This event is made possible with generous support from    The Kulicke Fund.

    Join current Preserve Manager Jill Sabre, past Preserve Manager Jack Stefferud, and Events Coordinator Tianna Godsey for a guided hike at Stroud Preserve. It’s a perfect chance to meet fellow outdoor enthusiasts and experience the preserve during one of its most vibrant seasons. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or just starting out, the trails offer a rewarding mix of terrain and scenery for everyone.  Along the way, we’ll pause at key spots to highlight notable features of the landscape and share how our land management practices support wildlife habitat while welcoming public exploration.

  • Volunteer – Nurture Nature

    Love nature and want to lend her a helping hand? Grab gloves and join fellow volunteers in removing invasives, nurturing native plants, or restoring habitat. Projects vary, but good fun (and dirt) is guaranteed! Natural Lands cares for more than 23,000 acres and 120 miles of trails, and we couldn’t do it without volunteers like you. Volunteering with Natural Lands is a great way to learn more about the natural world, give your time to a great cause, and connect with enthusiastic, like-minded people. The health and safety of staff and volunteers is our highest priority during this volunteer event.
