  • SWWAG Workshop: Trellis and Protect Your Garden

    Sankofa Community Farm at Bartram’s Garden 5400 Lindbergh Blvd, Philadelphia, PA

    Come learn how to build trellising for fruits and veggies to give them more room to grow, as well as protect your garden from pests. This trellis workshop is for beginner and intermediate gardeners looking to deepen their knowledge about gardening techniques. We will focus on trellising and explore why, how, and which plants benefit from trellising.  We will also explore what style of trellis is most beneficial based on the plant itself.   • SWWAG Workshop: How to make Compost and FSA info

    Sankofa Community Farm at Bartram’s Garden 5400 Lindbergh Blvd, Philadelphia, PA

    Learn how to make compost through a six-step process that begins with transforming recycled food waste into nutrient-rich soil. This demonstration highlights the current depletion of the city’s soil and shows how composting can restore its vitality—producing dark, fertile earth capable of growing nutritious fruits and vegetables that support optimal health. The Philadelphia Farm Service Agency(FSA) will also be tabling during the event to share USDA resources for urban growers. County Executive Director Nina Berryman will speak to participants about the FSA and answer any questions. She can discuss farm numbers, youth loans, and other financial safety net programs the FSA

    Bartram’s Garden will serve as the signature event site for National Public Lands Day (NPLD) 2025, a nationwide celebration of the places that connect us all. NPLD signature sites are selected because they embody the annual theme; this year’s theme, “Our Home Outdoors”, reminds us that public lands are more than just scenic spaces– they are where we gather, grow, and feel at home. This event is in partnership with the National Environmental Education Foundation, the nonprofit coordinator of National Public Lands Day for more than 30 years.
