Join Alunis Sanctuary for a 5 month trauma-informed healing journey designed to help participants begin releasing generational and personal trauma through gentle self-exploration.Each session blends mindfulness, meditation, journaling, and reflective practices with the healing presence of the natural world. Come learn how to identify trees with Jeff and Robb at this seasonal workshop! This summer, they will be focusing on leaves and other signs seen in the summertime. This workshop will start off in the outdoor classroom to examine samples for approximately an hour and then continue on a walk to try your new skills in the field. Dressing in layers and sturdy shoes are recommended. Meet at the Visitor Center, no registration needed.
Take an educational walk with one of our knowledgeable volunteers! Discover the 300+ species of birds that use the Refuge during their migration routes - each week guarantee different species! Walk will meet by visitor center and be at a relaxed paced on flat surfaces. There are restrooms near the trailhead. No registration required.
Stewardship Saturdays are open events that welcomes all visitors to take part in a hands on experience of creating better habitats for wildlife on the Refuge. Folks will meet at the Visitor's Center where they will meet and then work with experienced "Weed Warriors" who will teach them about removing invasive plants and or planting native plants to improve native plant diversity and/or food sources for wildlife.
Join Ranger Ben for a Bike Tour around John Heinz NWR this Saturday 5/2 from 2 - 3 pm! Bring your own bike for this 4-5 mile ride on gravel trails. Register with Ben at benjamin_breslau@fws.gov Public transportation: John Heinz NWR is located at 8601 Lindbergh Blvd, Philadelphia, PA 19153. Join us for a guided exploration of the refuge by bike! The bike tour will be start under the pavilion with stretching and then a group ride on flat gravel roads. We recommend bringing a bike, helmet, layers, and water.
