FDR Park is a 348-acre park located near the Delaware River including outdoor activities such as tennis, boating, skateboarding and more. Join us for a laid-back afternoon at this South Philadelphia park! We’ll enjoy a pizza picnic and classic yard games like cornhole and frisbee. It’s a great chance to meet fellow outdoor enthusiasts, relax by the lakes, and soak up the park’s natural charm. This park has a few good birding areas including the lakes, woods and meadows of the old golf course. We will concentrate on areas that are productive each month. Due to consistent flooding in the park please be prepared for muddy and wet areas. Water-proof shoes or mud boots are recommended. Dress for weather. Join naturalist Anisa George in gathering seeds from some of the many native plants that can be found in the South Philly Meadows at FDR Park. You can bring home seeds for your own pots and gardens or gather for LandHealth who will cultivate them at our native plant nursery for propagating throughout the city. We will walk a 2 mile loop. All ages are welcome. Please bring your own water bottle and dress for the weather and to protect yourself from poison ivy (also a native plant!) exposure.
