The Head & The Hand

Join us at The Head and The Hand on February 20 at 7-8pm for a reading and conversation about Mother Archive, the debut image-text memoir by writer and photographer Erika Morillo. Erika will be in conversation with Philly-based artist and writer Irit Reinheimer, discussing the use of photography to understand mothering, memory, and identity in the context of the Dominican-American immigrant experience. Signed copies of the book will be available. Book Synopsis A family murder kept secret, the mysterious disappearance of her father, the systematic erasing of family photographs, a turbulent relationship with her mother, layers of trauma and abuse.

Ms. AJ will lead us in story and song throughout the year--along with some special guests--as we explore a new theme each month. Expect percussive instruments to share and play provided by our friends at Unless Kids, a couple of great reads, and a song circle, in our gender-inclusive space where all identities are encouraged to thrive. Poet Sara Mae will elucidate their writing process for their new chapbook, Phantasmagossip. Sara Mae will lead participants in a discussion of the poems that inspire them to write and share from their own work. Centered primarily around visual poetry, this is a workshop appropriate for writers of all levels. Bring a notebook and invite a friend! Light refreshments offered by the writer!
