The Qualities of Water

Ralph Morgan Park Glenside Avenue, Wyncote, PA, United States

A hands-on workshop where we'll learn how to assess watershed health and document the visual power of water! The way water moves and behaves tells us a lot about the health of the watershed. In this workshop, we are going to observe water through two sets of eyes: as community scientists and as artists. Join ecological artist (and TTF Streamkeeper) Rebecca Schultz and TTF Upstream Conversation Leader Ryan Neuman as we use our senses to assess the health of Tookany Creek and put those senses to work documenting the visual power of water. The composition of soil plays a big role in watershed health, and it’s also more complex–and beautiful to look at–than most of us can imagine! Join ecological artist (and TTF Streamkeeper) Rebecca Schultz and Dr. Alain Plante, Soil Scientist and Professor in the Department of Earth & Environmental Science at the University of Pennsylvania, for a closer

Cheltenham Center for the Arts 439 Ashbourne Road, Cheltenham, PA, United States

A hands-on workshop where we'll make and use paint from soil!Prehistoric humans made their paint from rocks and soil. We are still making art with these rich colors today. In this workshop, we will make pigments from soils gathered in the Cheltenham watershed and try our hand at painting with soil watercolors! Artworks created during the workshop will be incorporated into Mapping Our Watershed, a mixed media piece by local artist Rebecca Schultz inspired by the watershed in Cheltenham Township. Please join us in July for more workshops about watershed ecology and art!

Printing with Plants

Cheltenham Center for the Arts 439 Ashbourne Road, Cheltenham, PA, United States

A free hands-on workshop where we'll make prints with plants! The stems, leaves, and flowers of plants are essential to their functions: making their own food and providing it to other living things, building healthy soil, cleaning and filtering water, and providing shade. They also create beautiful shapes, lines, and patterns. In this workshop, we will make monoprints with plants. Artworks created during the workshop will be incorporated into Mapping Our Watershed, a mixed media piece by local artist Rebecca Schultz inspired by the watershed in Cheltenham Township.
