Mark your calendars for local Philly author Joseph Earl Thomas, who will read from his memoir, Sink, hailed by Carmen Maria Machado as "a brilliant and fucking fearless debut." Stranded within a family’s desperate, but volatile attempts to love and demeaned daily for his perceived weakness, Joseph Earl Thomas felt like he was under constant threat. Roaches fell, indifferently, from ceiling to cereal bowl as if taunting him for complaining about the fact that he was hungry. In a series of exacting and fierce vignettes, Thomas explores how a cycle of hostility permeated his environment, while illuminating the vital reprieve

Riverwards Chapbook Series Release Party

On November 8, 2024 from 7 to 9 PM, The Head & The Hand (H&H Books) will be hosting a release party at american grammar for the publication of three chapbooks as the finale to its 2023-2024 Riverwards Arts & Letters Series. These chapbooks are visual-literary collaborations between artist Manuela Guillén and poet Pthalo, artist Nora E Luks and poet Mary Zhou, and artist Rushawn Stanley, or “Scum Lizard,” and poet Gabriel Ramirez. We'll celebrate with readings, artist talks, refreshments, prints and books for sale, live music from Universal Rhythm, and MORE!

Morning Story Time with Ms. AJ at H&H Books

H&H Books 2230 Frankford Ave, Philadelphia, NY, United States

Ms. AJ will lead us in story and song throughout the year--along with some special guests--as we explore a new theme each month. Expect percussive instruments to share and play provided by our friends at Unless Kids, a couple of great reads, and a song circle, in our gender-inclusive space where all identities are encouraged to thrive. Our Thursday afternoon story times are geared towards kiddos 12 months and younger, while our Sunday morning story times are for all ages. On 3/30, we will celebrate Women's History Month and read Beauty Woke by Nonieqa Ramos, Broken Butterfly Wings by Raquel
