Resource-Mapping and Neighborhood Strategy for Community Self-Reliance & EP

Market Square Market Square, Philadelphia, PA, United States

Learn about GREAT's initiative to build emergency preparedness and community self-reliance in Germantown. This event is NOT in Market Square. EventBrite doesn't recognize THE PEOPLE'S LOT as a location. It's across from Market Square, on East Church Lane, just a few doors past Uncle Bobbie's. It's an outdoor lot with colorful chair and lots of murals. We will use GREAT's Organizer’s Guide for Emergency Preparedness & Community Self-Reliance, switching between presenting content from the Guide to small group / individual brainstorm time. The main topics include: * Building connections & resource-mapping* What to do in an immediate emergency situation* Longer-term resiliency

Crop Swap & Seed Exchange

Market Square Market Square, Philadelphia, PA, United States

Share what you have an take something home! This will be our first crop swap. Think of it as an old fashioned trading post, but informal. We will have tables and coolers for the items, and folks can take whatever they'd like. If you've been to one of our other swaps (for clothing, household items, and so on) it will be the same style of event. Abundance not scarcity. If you're part of a community garden, consider letting other gardeners know they can bring their excess harvests here, if they won't be able to use them! This event is at THE

Community-Powered Solutions for Housing Affordability

Germantown Mennonite Church 21 West Washington Lane, Philadelphia, PA, United States

Community-Powered Solutions for Housing Affordability: an action-oriented dinner & facilitated conversation by and for Germantown neighbors A Beloved Community doesn't let its neighbors be displaced from gentrification. Home/shelter is too basic a human need to let “the market” decide who your neighbors will be. Let's use our power (collective resources, voice & knowledge) to act on this. Event facilitators will provide a few prompts for discussion in small groups and for the whole room. Folks who participated in GREAT's recent Learning Circle on housing & beloved community will also share some of their experiences and learning moments.

Re-Member-ing Germantown Time Bank

18 Church Ln 18 Church Lane, Philadelphia, PA, United States

Help us kick off our upcoming relaunch!GREAT's time bank has about 100 members. In 2019, members were meeting at monthly potluck gatherings, and a website called Hourworld helped track and facilitate the exchanges. At this time we are not pushing members to "do time banking." Our dear time bank was just getting started before COVID began, which really threw off momentum. The project became quite dormant, but it still has serious potential. Through the Spring and Summer of 2023, we are breathing life back into the time bank, looking for new leaders, and will Re-Launch in the Fall of 2023. The
