Join us for an outdoor scavenger hunt-type activity that the whole family can enjoy!Come enjoy a morning of letterboxing, an intriguing “treasure hunt” style outdoor activity! Each family will receive a passbook, stamp and a series of water-based clues to find caches hidden both inside and outside at Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center! Find all the caches, fill up your passport book with stamps and come see all the hidden treasures Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center has to offer! Get the 'behind the scenes' scoop on Philadelphia's water supply system, past and present.Join us for a guided interpretation of the 1815 engineering marvel that is the Fairmount Water Works, a National Historic Landmark. Find answers to questions on how the Water Department over centuries has provided water to the people of Philadelphia. We will explore what has been, and continues to be, a major tourist attraction exciting visitors such as Lafayette, Mark Twain and Charles Dickens. A special guided interpretation of the 1815 engineering marvel that so impressed Lafayette on his Philadelphia visit in 1824 and 1825.Marquis de Lafayette was a French aristocrat who traveled to America and defied his own king to fight in the American Revolution against Great Britain. Lafayette was 19 when he first came to America in 1777 to fight for its freedom. When he returned in August 1824 for his farewell tour he was 67. Stop in for a story with your little ones 2-6 year oldCome bring your little ones to Fairmount Water Works to enjoy a story time and explore the Interpretive Center. Geared towards 2-6 year olds we will read a story from the Philadelphia Free Library, then go on a little tour outside. Guardians must accompany child during program. If there is rain we will do the story time and tour inside the building. Siblings younger/older are welcome!
