I recently watched The End of the Line, a documentary about overfishing and the havoc it wreaks on global fish stocks. (Look for a review in April’s issue of Grid.) In the film, journalist Charles Glover (author of the book upon which the film is based) compares the situation of bluefin tuna to that of white rhinos and snow leopards—they’re that close to extinction. So, this is good news:
The U.S. government announced Wednesday that it supports prohibiting international trade of Atlantic bluefin tuna, a move that could lead to the most sweeping trade restrictions ever imposed on the highly prized fish.
