Our First Friday tour series is intended to introduce community stakeholders and partner organizations to the park, trail and creek, demonstrating the natural beauty of this under appreciated community green space, noting the challenges of this urban watershed park and talking through strategies for rallying support for this incredible community asset. We will meet at the northernmost end of the trail. We will walk south to the end of the trail and have vehicles staged to return our guests to our starting point. We will host the first ceremony at the southernmost sign, along the Tacony Creek Park trail right below the gateway at East Tabor Road and East Olney Avenue. The speaking program and ribbon cutting will run from 2pm to 2:30pm. All families will be given a scavenger hunt, to find different things and creatures in nature at the park, and will be able to visit TTF’s River Alive Trail! Light snacks will be provided. This is a bilingual event and will be available in both English and Spanish. In the event of rain, this outing will be postponed to the following day, Sunday August 27th. Native edible and medicinal plant species can be integrated into gardens and ecological restoration projects to create habitats that support (and include) humans as part of local ecosystems. We’ll consider stewarding edible and medicinal plant species in native habitats such as riparian corridors and glades and discuss how a habitat-based approach translates to yards, parks, and farms.
