People of the Park Ribbon Cutting

We are so excited to invite the Tacony Creek Park community to join us for the People of the Park Ribbon Cutting. We will host the first ceremony at the southernmost sign, along the Tacony Creek Park trail right below the gateway at East Tabor Road and East Olney Avenue. The speaking program and ribbon cutting will run from 2pm to 2:30pm. We will meet at the northernmost end of the trail. We will walk south to the end of the trail and have vehicles staged to return our guests to our starting point. Six benches and animal sculptures will be re-installed along Cayuga Street in Juniata Park to connect you to Tacony Creek: fox, fish, turtle, heron, water snake, and a river otter. All families will be given a scavenger hunt, to find different things and creatures in nature at the park, and will be able to visit TTF’s River Alive Trail! Light snacks will be provided. This is a bilingual event and will be available in both English and Spanish. In the event of rain, this outing will be postponed to the following day, Sunday August 27th. Native edible and medicinal plant species can be integrated into gardens and ecological restoration projects to create habitats that support (and include) humans as part of local ecosystems. Join us as we tackle one of the largest illegal dumpsites in Philadelphia!! We’re teaming up with the City of Philadelphia, Office of Clean and Green, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Philadelphia Water Department, United by Blue, and multiple agencies, to remove illegally dumped tires and clear debris from Tacony Creek Park and the surrounding streets. This cleanup is a great way to make a real impact! Volunteers comfortable lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) are especially needed to help remove tires. Prefer lighter work?
