Learn from Ryan Neumann of Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership (TTF) about the effects that road salt has on our streams in the winter time, and what you can do to reduce those effects. We will also discuss the long term impacts of road salt use on our streams, and what that means for the health of our streams throughout the year. Registration Required. You can register here.
Volunteers throughout the Delaware River watershed and beyond will sample streams to tell the story of road salt in their communities.
The Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust (PERT) and the TTF Watershed Partnership are hosting a “Salt Blitz” in partnership with the Stroud Water Research Center to capture a snapshot of chloride levels in our local streams following winter road salting. Volunteers, staff, and students will collect water samples, which will be analyzed for conductivity and chloride. The results will be added to the regional map: https://swrc.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=6de8e168d1674679a316533dd58a7abe Sampling Date: Target date: March 6 If you cannot sample that day, please collect your sample before March 6, but as close to that date as possible. We want to get as many samples on the same day as possible so please aim for March 6th. Where
