Bring your smart device as there will be a guided nature exploration where you can practice using the app. After a quick orientation at the library, we’ll head to Renninger Park to utilize our new knowledge. Saturday, June 15, 2023 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Juneteenth Tours at the Peter Wentz Farmstead Join the Peter Wentz Farmstead in observation of Juneteenth, the holiday commemorating the emancipation of Black enslaved people in America. We will be offering special tours throughout the weekend focusing on the lives of the enslaved people owned by the Wentz family and how their stories connect to the larger history of slavery in early Pennsylvania. Learn about Jack, a freedom seeker owned by Peter Wentz who escaped twice from the Farmstead. Hear the stories of Hannah Till and William Lee, enslaved people

Adult Bird Walk (12 and up) : 9:00am - 10:30am Family Bird Walk Led by Suzanne Safran: 10:30am - 11:30am Walk with birder and conservationist Phil Witmer or Riverbend Education Manager Suzanne Safran as they lead families on a leisurely walk around the preserve at Riverbend. Check out the many species of birds that call Riverbend their home! Phil Witmer is an avid birder and conservationist with over 30 years

Adopt-a-Tree Tree Planting Event

Join us with your family to adopt and plant trees at Riverbend. Fall is a wonderful time to plant trees just before it turns colder in the winter months. Planting trees at the preserve helps to provide habitat to local wildlife, combat climate change and helps to maintain our local water supply as the trees we plant keep runoff from heading to the Schuylkill River watershed. Grab your partner and head over to Riverbend’s first-ever BARN DANCE! Lively musicians and a caller will be on hand to provide lively music and dancing instructions. Grab your cowboy boots and get ready to do-si-do the night away. Don’t miss an unforgettable night of fun at Riverbend. All ages and experience levels are welcome! Refreshments including light snacks, beer, and soft drinks will be served. Cost: $25 per person
