Riverbend is hosting a Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King and improve their communities. This event is open to ALL ages! Please bring your own water and work gloves to the event. Volunteers will be working outdoors helping our Habitat Manager with invasive plant removal.   • Weathering the Winter

    Saturday, February 1 from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm Weathering the Winter Winters were harsh in the 18th century, but even in cold and snowy weather there was still plenty of work to do around the farm. Fires had to be built, food preserved and cooked, and animals needed tending. Visit the Farmstead on February 1st to watch our living historians demonstrate the types of farm chores a family like the Wentzes would have had to do this time of year.     It’s that exciting time of the year again when our ponds fill to the brim with squirming tadpoles! Join Riverbend's Educators for this fascinating annual rite of spring that happens right here at Riverbend. Learn about the lifecycle of the amphibians that live at the Preserve and see the tadpoles in action. This fun event is open to individuals and to families with children of all ages. Guests will explore the preserve and visit activity stations to learn all about frogs. Depending on the weather and other natural factors, we may see a lot of tadpoles or none at all,

    New Jersey based historical musicians, The Ministers of Apollo, will play 19th-century music in Cliveden's Parlor on Saturday, May 31st, 12pm to 4pm. Tour the first floor of the house and hear a song or two during your visit. The program is free. Music in the Parlor is generously supported by The Haley Foundation. Cliveden is located at 6401 Germantown Avenue, 19144 and can be accessed by private and public transportation. Street parking is available in the surrounding neighborhood.   • Free House Tours: Second Saturdays at Cliveden

    Cliveden offers free house tours the second Saturday of the month through October. Tours are available from 12 pm to 4 pm, beginning on the hour; last tour of the day is at 3 pm. Visitors will view two exhibits: "Procuring Liberty in the Emerging Nation" and "Looking Glass." No registration is needed. Visitors should come to the Barn (98 E. Cliveden Street, 19119) and speak with a Cliveden Interpreter to begin their tour.

  • Spotlight Tour: Constructing Germantown: The Buildings of Jacob Knorr

    Among the best-known buildings of Germantown are the sturdy, elegant stone structures known today as Cliveden, the Johnson House, the Germantown Mennonite Meeting House, and the Concord School House. Remarkably, these structures can all be attributed to one builder, Jacob Knorr. This tour will bring visitors into these charming and significant sites. We will investigate what we know about the building of early Germantown, and what mysteries remain. In the case of inclement weather, this tour will be rescheduled.
