The Philadelphia Honey Festival returns to Bartram’s Garden with a day of bee-themed family fun. Join us and the Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild as we educate about and celebrate our busy, buzzing friends who make the world go ’round! Activities include:  Children’s activities such as story times, crafts, and parade: 11 am- 2 pm Open Hive demos in the Meadow: 11:30 am, 1:30 pm Honey extraction demos in the Coach House: 12:30pm Bee bearding demo with Don Shump: 2pm Local artisans, makers, community tabling and food for purchase in the Pavilion: 11am-3pm This event is FREE! No registration is required.

Weathering the Winter

Saturday, February 10th from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm Weathering the Winter Winters were harsh in the 18th century, but even in cold and snowy weather there was still plenty of work to do around the farm. Fires had to be built, food preserved and cooked, and animals needed tending. Visit the Farmstead on February 10th to watch our living historians demonstrate the types of farm chores a family like the Wentzes would have had to do this time of year. A solo exhibition by Philadelphia-based artist Krista Dedrick-Lai. February 10 – March 23, 2024 Ravel is an interesting word. A contranym. It can be both a noun and a verb. It can mean both tangle and untangle. And isn’t that how life can be sometimes? We find ourselves in a great big mess. And the more we try to tease the mess apart and get everything back in order, the more jumbled it becomes. In the end there is no reweaving the unraveled tapestry, not really. There is simply taking the threads you have at your feet and starting again.

Watch as they tap the trees, collect the sap, and create the syrup. Learn about the Indigenous origins of maple sugaring and how the process has continued through to today. Once your mouth starts watering, stop by Philly Waffle Cabin's food truck and enjoy one of their delicious Belgian waffles! This program is weather dependent, if the temperature isn’t just right the sap may not flow!
