    Join Cliveden, the African American Genealogy Group of Philadelphia, the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, and PWPvideo on Wednesday, March 12th at 7pm to share work and debut three videos for our project, Illuminating Hidden Lives. The project seeks to uplift stories of free and enslaved African Americans in the Mid-Atlantic region and make these stories more accessible through digitizing documents and film.     Film Society Center | 1415 Sansom Street, Philadelphia Marian Bailey’s vibrant new mural, Films Shaped by a City, celebrates some of the key films and film-related organizations that have impacted filmmaking, film presentation, and film-related training in Philadelphia. The mural, which adorns the Sansom Street side of the Film Society Center, is the result of a multi-year project by Mural Arts Philadelphia, BlackStar Projects, and the Philadelphia Film Society, alongside an advisory panel of representatives from PhillyCAM, Scribe Video Center, Philadelphia Asian American Film Foundation, Sotomayor Productions, cinéSPEAK, and others.

This short documentary follows Cesar Vargas, a Garifuna language teacher and researcher from Honduras, and Eli LaBan, a documentary filmmaker from Philadelphia, as they record and translate traditional songs to use as teaching tools to support the revitalization of the endangered afro-indigenous Garifuna language in Honduras. Eli LaBan is an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker who has worked on projects pertaining to social development, cultural preservation, and education across the world.
