Intro to Tufting

Join us for an in-person tufting workshop with Tuft the World! In this hands-on instructional class, participants will learn to use power tufting machines to create a rug or wall hanging. The 6-hour class will cover the basics of setting up a tufting frame with stretched primary cloth and threading and operating tufting machines. Instructions for how to cut, glue, and finish a tufted piece will also be provided. Participants will work on projects of their own design on a frame that can accommodate pieces 22 x 22 inches. Bonnie MacAllister has exhibited her embroideries at Yellowstone Art Museum, the New York Public Library , the New School for Social Research, the Trenton City Museum, and the State Museum of Pennsylvania. Her work incorporates recycled textiles and farm sourced fibers. In her residency at Cherry Street Pier, Bonnie offers community education in fiber arts using locally sourced and recycled materials. Her favorite thing is to create new embroiders by teaching accessible methods for all ages and abilities. Do you have invasive vines growing in your yard? Join Riverbend staff for the first event in our Sustainable Living Series to learn how to remove vines and turn them into something beautiful. We’ll begin the workshop outside with some easy-to-follow instructions on removing invasive vines like English Ivy and five-leaf akebia. Clippers and work gloves will be provided. Next we’ll move inside Riverbend’s barn to turn the vines into a decoration you can enjoy in your own home or gift to a loved one. Weathering the Winter

Saturday, February 1 from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm Weathering the Winter Winters were harsh in the 18th century, but even in cold and snowy weather there was still plenty of work to do around the farm. Fires had to be built, food preserved and cooked, and animals needed tending.
