Cliveden’s next Second Saturday event on July 8th, from 9am to 4pm, and the theme is Citizenship! Local organization Victoria Urban Outreach Tutoring Service (VUOTS) will host a civic engagement and legislative conversation with Every Voice, Every Vote, a collaborative project managed by The Lenfest Institute for Journalism. From 9am to 12pm, community members are welcome to volunteer in the gardens and assist the Preservation Director in maintaining the greenspace. Tools and directions will be provided, no experience is necessary. Volunteers should come to the Carriage House and Barn, located at 98 E. Cliveden Street, 19119, to meet with Libbie.

The Turmoil of Transition: A Dramatic Experience – James Smith

Step back in time and meet one of the characters from Cliveden’s tumultuous past on Saturday, August 5th, from 12pm to 4pm. Visitors will meet James Smith, a free African American who was a coachman and servant at Cliveden. The tours take place in the Main House, are an hour long and begin on the hour at 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. Join architectural historian Willie Graham for an in-depth exploration of Cliveden and how the building can help tell the stories of those who lived and worked at Cliveden.
