  • Mindful Birding @UPENN Morris Arboretum

    In Mindful Birding we will combine observing birds with mindfulness techniques, creating a heightened awareness of both ourselves and the world around us. Through guided instruction, we’ll practice simple mindfulness exercises to engage our sensory awareness while intentionally tuning into the abundant birds surrounding us on this autumn day in the Morris Arboretum & Gardens Natural Lands area. Adult Bird Walk (12 and up) : 9:00am - 10:30am Family Bird Walk Led by Suzanne Safran: 10:30am - 11:30am Walk with birder and conservationist Phil Witmer or Riverbend Education Manager Suzanne Safran as they lead families on a leisurely walk around the preserve at Riverbend.   • Birds at Pennypack on the Delaware

    Pennypack on the Delaware is uniquely positioned along the river, providing crucial habitat for migrants and the odd rarity. The flats at the confluence of Pennypack Creek and the Delaware frequently host gulls and shorebirds. The park also hosts Philadelphia’s most viewable Bald Eagle nest. Dress for weather.   • Winter Gulls at Glen Foerd

    Glen Foerd mansion sits along the Delaware River in the northeastern-most corner of Philly and is one of the best places in the city to study gulls during the winter. While there is no guarantee, we are hoping to see a rare gull such as Iceland or Glaucous Gull. There should also be a good amount of waterfowl out on the river and we can discuss how to distinguish Double-crested Cormorants from the Great Cormorants that visit the area in winter. We plan this as a stationary event overlooking the river, but if folks want, we can also explore the

    The Historical Society of Frankford (HSF) today invites the public to hear Roger Turner, curator of instruments and artifacts at the Science History Institute of Philadelphia, speak at its monthly meeting on April 14, 2026 at 7:30 PM. The doors open at 7:00 PM. His topic will be “Weird, Wonderful, Playful and Profound: Treasures of the Science History Institute”. The venue is the HSF library/museum, located at 1507 Orthodox St, Philadelphia.
