Join Historic Rittenhouse Town for Tavern Night! Outside the church, the tavern was the most important institution in most towns. Taverns were used for political assemblies, markets, and, of course, a place to enjoy a good meal and learn the news of the day. Come join us as the buildings and grounds of our historic 18th-century homestead are transformed into a tavern from the 1770s, where the simple pleasures of good food, drink, and fellowship collide. Tavern Night will feature an evening of storytelling and merriment, complete with 18th-century beer and cocktails and hearth-cooked food prepared in our Bake House.
A variety of vendors will join Hansberry Garden volunteers to offer plants, plant-related items and home-baked treats at the annual Hansberry Garden & Nature Center Plant Fair and Bake Sale on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Garden (5150 Wayne Avenue, in Philadelphia’s Southwest Germantown). In keeping with tradition, the event will happen the day before Mother’s Day, and it’s a great place to pick up some cut flowers at Megan’s Bouquet Bar, a houseplant from Plant and People, or a perennial, herb or tomato seedling from Hansberry Garden volunteers. Cliveden offers free house tours every second Saturday of the month, May to October, as part of their Second Saturday programming. House tours are available 12pm to 4pm, beginning on the hour in the Cliveden Barn, located at 98 E. Cliveden Street, 19119. The last tour of the day is at 3pm. Each tour is a one-hour experience.
