  • Weathering the Winter

    Saturday, February 1 from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm Weathering the Winter Winters were harsh in the 18th century, but even in cold and snowy weather there was still plenty of work to do around the farm. Fires had to be built, food preserved and cooked, and animals needed tending. Visit the Farmstead on February 1st to watch our living historians demonstrate the types of farm chores a family like the Wentzes would have had to do this time of year. Dress your best and enjoy an afternoon that’s all about amphibians: stories, crafts, and an animal encounter with Riverbend’s Green Tree Frog ambassadors. Guests will enjoy light tea party fare and the event is hosted by a very special princess who loves frogs! Guests are encouraged to come dressed in their finest prince and princess attire for a family-friendly magical afternoon in Riverbend’s Barn.   • Brazilian Adventure at Welsh Road Library

    Welsh Road Library 9233 Roosevelt Boulevard, Philadelphia, United States

    Welsh Road Library will host Minas for a small music program. Minas introduces students to the country of Brazil through its music, Samba and Bossa Nova. After performing examples of Brazilian music and presenting historic, geographical and educational references, they introduce Brazil’s famous festival Carnaval, demonstrating authentic Brazilian percussion instruments - surdo, tamborim, repinique, agogô, reco-reco, ganzá, pandeiro, and cuíca. Participation is enhanced by engaging students to sing in Portuguese (the language of Brazil), scat, and play Brazilian samba percussion (instruments supplied). Students learn while being engaged and having fun.
