Northwest Night Rides with the Bicycle Coalition

Northwest Night Rides are social group bike rides focused in and around Northwest Philadelphia.  We meet every other Wednesday at 7:00 pm and usually end at a bar, brewery, or restaurant.  Anyone is welcome to join – living in Northwest Philly is not a requirement!  Given the geography, most rides involve hills, but we don’t leave anyone behind.  Please check our Instagram page for ride details.

Ride of Silence

The annual Ride of Silence is an international ride that honors bicyclists killed or injured by motor vehicles. The 2023 Ride of Silence will be held on Wednesday, May 17, from 6:45 pm – 8 pm. This ride will start at the North Apron of City Hall with a short memorial ceremony and slow bike ride that will travel an 8-mile route at 9.5 miles per hour through Center City before ending the Art Museum for a memorial bike lift. The ride occurs rain or shine and we invite the entire bicycling community to join us as they have for the past 19 years.

Wednesday Night Rides

Wednesday Night Rides are social bike rides in Philly, every two weeks. Rides start at a variety of locations throughout the city and usually but not always end at a bar or restaurant. Rides are moderately paced (average 8 mph) and prioritize bicycle infrastructure and connecting with other riders. All are welcome! Please check social media (Reddit or Instagram) for the details of each ride.

The Roosevelt Boulevard Automated Speed Enforcement pilot is set to expire in December of 2023. Recently, Senators David Argall (R-Schuylkill County) and Judith Schwank (D-Berks) introduced a co-sponsorship memo announcing that they will introduce a bill to reauthorize the program. We expect that it will introduced in the next month. We want to advocate to Senators to make the program on Roosevelt Blvd permanent and to expand it to the rest of Philadelphia county. This technology saves lives and should be expanded

Pending weather conditions, this will be an outdoor class along a quiet lane in the Azalea Garden at Lloyd Hall. Students will be shown how to balance, pedal, start, stop, and steer a bicycle as well as adjust a helmet for proper fit. Most people learn to ride a bicycle during the class, but even if they do not they’ll leave knowing a low-stress method to teach themselves to ride.
