The 2022 Empowerment Experience. Bringing Joy and Power to the People!
Join WURD for the 2022 Empowerment Experience – a time at the end of the year to reflect, refresh, and re-engerize for a new year. This year’s event is also the kickoff to a yearlong celebration of WURD’s 20th anniversary!
Empowerment in 2022 is the first time since the onset of the pandemic that we are holding this signature event live and in person! Mark Saturday, December 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on your calendar for a day that has something for everyone:
A live cooking demonstration with chef Chris Scott and Savory and Sweet’s Tonya Hopkins
Hopkins will whip up a special holiday cocktail, and Chef Scott will be on hand to sign copies of his book!
Shop with Black vendors all day long at our holiday marketplace
Shop consciously with a variety of vendors curated to help you find the gifts you need for the upcoming holiday season.
Get your party on with legendary Philly DJ Gary O
Dance and be merry with the WURD family while Gary O spins classic R&B, soul and hip-hop hits.
forWURD members can win big — a big basket of gifts and goodies
All forWURD members will be given a raffle ticket for the chance to win a gift basket filled with an item from every one of our holiday marketplace vendors!
Reflecting on giving traditions and practices in our communities
Keith Leaphart, founder of Philanthropi, will join WURD President and CEO Sara M. Lomax for a conversation about the spirit of giving that permeates Black culture. Leaphart’s careers in medicine, business, and philanthropy center on one single mission: help as many people as possible, as often as possible.
