Wissahickon Valley Park Family Hike with Doug Gibson, Courtney Malley, Jill Curatolo, and Peter Curatolo

Meeting at Mt. Airy Trailhead Kiosk (see map here)
Join us for a leisurely, family-friendly loop hike in the Wissahickon, paced to the age and abilities of participants. Starting at the Mt. Airy Trailhead, we’ll head toward Frog Pond to talk about stormwater management and how frogs survive the winter through brumation. We’ll continue along the White Trail to Kitchen’s Lane, with stops to share the history of the mill, bridge, and surrounding landscape.
The hike will also pass through the Monastery grounds, where we’ll see the historic house and barn and learn about the site’s origins. If we are lucky, we will see some of the horses and donkeys that live there. Along the way, children can participate in a nature bingo activity, and we’ll pause to observe mosses, fungi, and plants we encounter.
All children must be accompanied by an adult; no dogs except for service animals, please.
