Winter Bird Walk

January 11 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am

Join Connor O’Hea at Rushton Woods Preserve to explore our winter birds! Even though our feathered friends are quieter this time of year, they are still abundant everywhere. Dark-eyed Juncos and White-throated Sparrows flit about the underbrush, Eastern Bluebirds hunt from their posts in the farm fields, and sometimes even Eastern Towhees can be spotted in the thickets. As an ecologist and avid birder, Connor has the privilege of working closely with birds in both the field and the hand. His experience ranges from watching birds in his backyard to bird banding for long-term monitoring purposes (including for Rushton Woods Banding Station and Foreman’s Branch Bird Observatory). REGISTER HERE Connor is particularly passionate about how changes in our environment are affecting bird populations, and he loves sharing these insights with others. He enjoys leading nature walks like this one, meeting like-minded people and those new to the subject: “I look forward to meeting you all, pointing out some of our local feathered friends, and answering any bird-related questions you might have along the way!”   Accessibility & Other Details: This bird walk will be light and easy with mostly even ground, with access to bathroom facilities in the Rushton Conservation Center if needed. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Please bring binoculars if you have them.
