Join master beekeeper, Vincent Aloyo, for a talk about our friend the honey bee.
Honey bees are key pollinators, enabling or enhancing food production. In gathering their own food, bees move pollen from flower to flower, allowing plants to produce seed-containing fruits (some of which we call vegetables). Although many bees and insects are efficient pollinators, Vincent Aloyo, Master Beekeeper, will explain the characteristics that make honey bees useful pollinators. Despite their importance, large numbers of honey bees die each winter, and other pollinators are in decline, mostly due to human activity. Lack of forage (flowers and weeds) due to overuse of insecticides and herbicides in both home use and commercial agriculture are contributing to pollinator declines. This talk will explain how you can help honey bees and other pollinators in your local area and influence wider thinking and action regarding pollinator needs.
Parking can be found in our visitor parking lot and participants will meet for the workshop at VCAM 001
