VU-PHL & Love Your Park or Sharing Excess

May 10 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Join us May 10th! Beautify Carroll Park or help distribute free food at Malcolm X Park. Same day, two options/times to give back! Pick one!

Join the Volunteering Untapped Team on Saturday, May 10th, for one of two different volunteering opportunities. Our partners this month are:

Love Your Park is your portal to getting involved in Philly’s parks. From regular volunteer workdays to citywide celebrations and year-round community organizing, Love Your Park brings Philadelphians together to clean, green, and celebrate our public green spaces. We love small neighborhood parks and large watershed natural areas alike. We are here for Philly’s parks.

Sharing Excess focuses on the logistical barriers that keep good food from reaching people. Their agile, tech-enabled model makes it easy for businesses to donate fresh food regularly — while they handle the transportation, coordination, delivery, and everything in between. They partner with food businesses and food banks alike, acting as the agile connector that keeps perfectly good food moving while it’s still fresh.

What will we be doing on Saturday, May 10th?

Love Your Park – Carroll Park – 9 AM – 1 PM:

5800 W Girard Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19131

Volunteers will work alongside Phila Parks and Rec, Fairmount Park Conservatory and Friends of Carroll Park to plant trees, shrubs, flowers, mulch existing trees, remove litter and debris. Carroll Park will host a post event celebration that will include: speaking program, free lunch/refreshments, live DJ, family-friendly activities and free t-shirts!

Sharing Excess – Malcom X Park – 12 PM – 2 PM

5100 Pine St, Philadelphia, PA 19143

Sharing Excess hosts pop-up distributions up at parks throughout the city to bring free food markets directly to neighborhoods. Volunteers will assist with setting up tents, tables, and produce boxes, and distributing food out to community members, no questions asked
