For the FIRST TIME EVER, tour the cemetery at NIGHT and hear stories about its dark history and bright future!! Not for the faint of heart!!
Ready yourself for a walk on the (literal) dark side of Mount Vernon Cemetery (MVC). Closed to the public for almost two decades, this fall we open its creaking black gates for ONE NIGHT ONLY to venture on a unique off-road journey through MVC’s mysterious past.
Racing against the setting sun, this adults-only early-evening tour showcases the more macabre aspects of MVC’s history; tales of murder, suicide, and hoodoo that are guaranteed to send shivers up your spine and make you once again declare: I’m afraid of the dark. Who knows who or even what we’ll find? Spoiler alert: Be prepared for the uncanny as MVC is covered in, as the New York Post declared: “creepy stuffed animals that inexplicably appear overnight.”
Once darkness falls, we’ll switch on our flashlights and stumble through the pitch black of the night – seriously, we have no electricity so trust us, it gets crazy dark – to the center of the 28 acre property. There, we’ll participate in an epic on-site spiritual cleansing ceremony, conducted by members of SOUTH STREET CIRCLE, Philadelphia’s own Neo-Pagan ritual group.
It’s a night like no other! You bring the flashlights. We’ll bring the fear!!
This tour is sponsored and conducted by members of the Friends of Mount Vernon Cemetery and is part of MVC’s 2024 Fall Festival Tour Season.
Content warning/Reminders:
MVC’s Twilight Tour will include discussions of an adult nature that may be distressing to some visitors. Topics include tales of murder, suicide, death, and infant mortality via disease.
This tour is for ADULTS ONLY. Anyone under the age of 18 will be turned away.
Please meet at MVC’s main gate. Located at the corner of Ridge and Lehigh Avenues.
The tour will be going offroad. Regardless of weather, we strongly recommend wearing comfortable closed-toed shoes and long pants.
It is essential to arrive on time. Tour leaves at precisely 4:40. If you arrive late, once the gate is closed and locked, there is no coming back for you.
MVC is in a court-appointed conservatorship. As such, all visitors will need to sign an access waiver. Paperwork will be provided to you upon arrival.
All visitors are required to follow all rules and guidelines set forth by the cemetery’s conservators and by the Friends of Mount Vernon Cemetery. Failure to adhere to these rules will result in immediate expulsion from the grounds without refund, and you will be banned from participating in future MVC public events.
