The Wissahickon in September with Debbie Hoellein, Jim McClory, Dave Stehman, and David Bower

September 26 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Meeting at W Johnson Street between Wissahickon Avenue and Lincoln Drive
There is free parking along W Johnson Street and other nearby neighborhood streets.
There will not be bathrooms available along our route.
Join Debbie, Jim, and Dave as we hike the Wissahickon in September in memory of Gerry Schweiger. Gerry was a beloved trail ambassador who led a popular series of hikes called Trails less Travelled. This approximately 3-3.5 mile hike to the Henry Houston Statue is similar to one he led. On our way to the statue, we’ll pass through what once was the Houston Ramble and walk over some newer trails Friends of the Wissahickon built last year. Our return will take us through Historic RittenhouseTown and Thomas Mansion. FOW’s favorite historian, David Bower, will meet us at points of interest and explain their significance.
Our route will be rocky in spots with some inclines and descents, so be prepared. Children 12 years of age and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult, but please, no dogs except for service animals.
Distance: 3.5 miles
Level: Difficult (many inclines and declines, uneven surfaces)
Registration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations.
Unless otherwise specified, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org. Visit www.fow.org for updates.
