The Wissahickon in September with Debbie Hoellein, Jim McClory, and Cathy Schweiger
September 30 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Meeting at W Johnson Street and Lincoln Drive
Join Debbie, Jim, and Cathy as we hike the Wissahickon in September in memory of Gerry Schweiger. Gerry was a beloved Trail Ambassador who led us all over Wissahickon Valley Park on a series of hikes called “Trails Less Traveled.” This hike is similar to a hike Gerry led to the Henry Houston Statue.
This route takes us through what used to be the Houston Ramble and on some new trails that Friends of the Wissahickon built last year. We’ll also walk through Historic RittenhouseTown and the grounds of Thomas Mansion. And on our way, we’ll be greeted by our favorite park historian—David Bower!
This hike is approximately 3 miles long. We will be walking over some steep and rocky trails at times, so be prepared. Children over the age of 12 years are welcome when accompanied by an adult, but please, no dogs except for service animals.
Distance: 3 miles
Level: Difficult (many inclines and declines, uneven surfaces)
Registration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations.
Unless otherwise specified, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Marisa Miller at [email protected]. Visit www.fow.org for updates.
