The Wissahickon in August

Meeting at Blue Bell Field Parking Lot (800 W Walnut Lane)
Join Debbie Hoellein, Jim McClory, Jill Curatolo, and Peter Curatolo as we hike through a southern portion of the park. Our route will take us through areas of historical and natural interest on both sides of Lincoln Drive, including Historic RittenhouseTown, Saylor Grove, and the site of the McKinney Quarry. We’ll see what some of our favorite plants are doing as the summer progresses. Our 3.5-4 mile route includes some steep and rocky trails, so come prepared with sturdy shoes and trekking poles if you have them.
Children 12 years of age and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult, but, please- no dogs except for service animals.

Audience: Ages 12+
Parking and Transit: If you’re driving, there’s plenty of parking at the Blue Bell Lot. If you’re taking public transit, our location is accessible via buses 65 and 53, as well as the Chestnut Hill West train line. See map for details.
Restrooms: There should be porta potties available for use at Blue Bell Park.
Registration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. Unless otherwise specified, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain, extreme heat, muddy conditions, or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org.
