The Water’s Edge Gala and Presentation of the 2024 Stroud Award for Freshwater Excellence

The Water’s Edge gala brings together business leaders in the community, supporters of Stroud Water Research Center, and experts in the world of fresh water. During this event, the Stroud Center recognizes an individual or organization that has made invaluable contributions to the world of fresh water or environmental conservation and presents them with the Stroud Award for Freshwater Excellence. The 2024 SAFE Award will be presented to American fisherman and award-winning author Paul Greenberg. Date and time: Thursday, September 19, 2024.6:30 p.m. Registration and cocktails.
7:15 p.m. Lecture and award presentation.
8 p.m. Dinner.

Carol Ware, Ph.D. The 2024 Stroud Award for Freshwater Excellence Recipient: Paul GreenbergHighlighting Global Sustainability Through FisheriesFirst learning to fish with his father at the age of five, Paul Greenberg is a lifelong fisherman and has taken his love for fishing to pen. His writing helps readers escape screens and find balance on the planet. Greenberg has written six books, including The New York Times Best Seller and Notable Book, Four Fish: The Future of the Last Wild Food. He has received a James Beard Award for Writing and Literature, a Pew Fellowship in Marine Conservation, a National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellowship, and many other grants and awards. He has also written for National Geographic Magazine, GQ, The Times (of London), and Vogue, and he lectures on seafood and the environment around the world. He is the writer-in-residence of the Safina Center and regularly contributes to academia. He is an adjunct professor at New York University’s Animal Studies Program in Manhattan and is a visiting scholar at the University of Washington’s Ocean Nexus Center. Previous speakers and award winners have included luminaries such as Jane Goodall, Olivia Newton-John and John Easterling, American Rivers and its president, Bob Irvin, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, Alexandra Cousteau, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., among others.
