The Cloverleaf Challenge: A Choose-Your-Own-Distance Hike

April 4 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Meeting at Valley Green Inn
Four leaf clovers are special and a recognized symbol of luck and rarity. Join Trail Ambassadors Lisa Kleiman, Susie Gettes, Debra Brackett, and Margaret Kinnevy for a cloverleaf-shaped hike exploring four quadrants of Wissahickon Valley Park—hike 1, 2 3, or all 4 ‘leaves’—there is a distance for everyone! How many can you complete!?
Our hiking adventure will start at Valley Green Inn. We will hike a cloverleaf loop, returning to Valley Green after completing each of the 4 different loops, passing many Wissahickon landmarks along the way. At the end of each loop, you can choose to continue onto the next loop, or call it a day! Mileage options will be approximately 3.5, 6, 8.5 and 11 miles. Anticipated elevation for the first half of the hike is 600 feet, and approximately 1000 feet for the full 11 mile hike.
The terrain is hilly with rocks and roots, and depending on the weather the trails may be muddy as well, so come prepared! Our route will provide hikers with the opportunity to hike both alongside and high above the creek, affording beautiful springtime views. Restrooms available at the beginning and end of each loop at Valley Green. Hikers should come prepared with plenty of water and snacks, and clothing layered for the weather.
Distance: 3.5/6/8.5/11 miles
Difficulty Level: Moderate-Difficult (some inclines and declines, uneven surfaces)
Audience: Ages 18+
Parking: There are three lots near the Inn. The northern parking lot can be accessed by Wises Mill Road, and the southern by Valley Green Road. Overflow parking is in the Upper Lot.
Restrooms: There should be bathrooms available outside of the Inn.
Registration is required for all events so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations.
Unless otherwise specified, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org. Visit www.fow.org for updates.
