Spring Equinox Sun Prints

Visitors and artists of all ages are invited to take a stroll in the park and then make botanical cyanotype prints to celebrate the equinox and longer days full of light. Led by Ampersand Textile & Design‘s Nicole Duprée.

The spring equinox is a time marking emergence from a season of short days and long nights to a time of balance, warmer temperatures, and budding nature.

To capture this time in botanical art using the sun and early spring plants, visitors will be invited to:

+ Take a walk in the park

+ Identify some local early spring plants including wild garlic mustard, dandelion, & deadnettle

+ Create cyanotype prints using early spring plants and the power of the sun

Leave this workshop with a collection of botanical prints and knowledge of some spring plants you can find right here at Pennypack Park.

Nicole Duprée is a local textile artist, natural color enthusiast, educator and the primary maker behind Ampersand Textile & Design–a Philadelphia-based creative workshop producing handmade goods and art materials from plant-based, reclaimed, and thoughtfully sourced materials. Space is limited. Registration required. No walk-ins can be accepted.

Parking is available at the center with additional street parking.

The center, bathrooms, and picnic areas are all accessible, however, the trails are rocky and uneven.

Photos will be taken of participants during this program for use by the Pennypack Environmental Center and Philadelphia Parks and Recreation. If you wish to opt out, please let us know before the program.
