Philadelphia Mid-Winter Bird Census

Now running in its 39th year, this census will gather data on wintering birds all over Philadelphia.
This is an all-day event that, for some teams, starts and ends with a search for owls. In the last few years, this has resulted in around 107 species (typically besting all Christmas Bird Counts in the area).

You can do this on your own (if you can ID sparrows, you are good to go), or join one of the many teams at your favorite Philly birding location or while exploring a completely new area.

We are always open to including new locations that can be surveyed for many years.
