People Place Things: A Photo Journalism Project Documenting West Philly
PEOPLE PLACES THINGS: is a collaboration between Get Fresh Daily, Barnes Foundation, and PILI X
Seeks to celebrate the rich and vibrant cultural, historical, and communal People Places Things of West Philly. While also envisioning what self determination and sovereignty means and looks like. A collective space where contributing freely and openly is encouraged. Using themes of hope and joy to energize the creativity in each individual.
Get Fresh Daily cultivates wellbeing in the Black community by integrating plant-based living experiences, farm fresh produce, and culturally empowering wellness education. GFD is working towards a future where people live long, healthy, and vibrant lives, and are sustained by nourishing food, rich community, and a return to earth-centered living.
Get Fresh Daily’s programs are based at their learning and healing space, Freedom Greens + Gardens, located directly across from Malcolm X Park in West Philadelphia. The garden serves as a hub for wellbeing and community connection in the heart of this neighborhood which has been deeply impacted by systemic racism, gentrification and food apartheid.
This project will be made possible by having multiple events. These events will include photo walks, collage making, and storytelling. Our aim with these experiences is to simultaneously begin an archive of said People Places Things. These workshops will be facilitated by West Philly Photographer and Artist PILI X. People Places Things aims to draw inspiration from the surrounding neighborhood by looking at and/or visiting our great West Philly institutions such as: African Cultural Art Form, Malcolm X Park, Hakim’s Bookstore, Paul Robeson House, Urban Art Gallery.
