Painting with Plants

August 1 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Practice plant-based painting with Bonnie MacAllister!

All materials included: watercolor paper, painting supplies, and plant based paints made on the Delaware River Waterfront from local, farm sourced, and common kitchen plants.

Optional: Bring along small scraps and textile pieces you would like to try the colors to mend and create new surface designs.

Bonnie MacAllister is a fourth year resident at Cherry Street Pier. Curator of the August 2026 exhibition BORN ON THE BICENTENNIAL, her previous shows at the pier have included Phantastic Phibers, a large scale invitational multimedia fibers exhibition including interactive and industrial textiles and suspended puppetry spanning the length of the upstairs terrace, pier gallery, and the pier garden bridge view and Weaving on the Waterfront featuring looms, process work, an installation of woven estuary dolls depicting indigenous pre-colonial figures, and an interactive wishing well and tree constructed by her frequent collaborator Jamie Campbell.  Bonnie and Jamie created the short film  “Mending” for Termite TV.

Bonnie’s Craft Your Own Nature Inspired Fabric Art was selected as an Airbnb Original.  This workshop and a variety of fiber arts experiences including embroidery, weaving, sewing, felting, and creating keepsakes are available to book at Cherry Street Pier monthly through her instagram links @bonniemacart.  She has published and exhibited internationally and has been the recipient of grants and teaching artist residencies including a Fulbright- Hays to Ethiopia. She is currently exhibiting at Abington Art Center, University of Alabama, and with the National Association of Women Artists.

About Termite TV’s process:

After a successful year-long studio residency at Cherry Street Pier exploring the theme of Understories and after decades of having created dozens of collaborative programs, working across multiple media platforms, we’re launching our second year-long residency to explore the theme of Mending. Workshops are offered through artist collaborations with the intention to cultivate inspiration and experimental material for our community of media artists.
