All year long, Al-Bustan’s After School Arab Arts Students make artwork with their instructor, Saria Rosenhaj. The program introduces students to technical art forms while celebrating the depth and cultural significance of Arab arts. “Al-Bustan” is Arabic for “The Garden.” The objective of the program is to plant seeds of creative expression through cross-cultural exchange and arts education.
Al-Bustan is excited to welcome students from John Moffet and Samuel Powel schools into the Al-Bustan Gallery to showcase their artwork through an exhibition entitled Storyburst. Over the past few months, students at both schools participated in visual storytelling through a multitude of mixed-media projects. They drew visual inspiration from such artists as Iasmin Omar Atta and Diana Al-Hadid, and narrative inspiration from a variety of Arabic folktales. With spirited hand puppets, deftly-drawn comics, miniature sculptures of brave heroes, and much more, this exhibition displays an abundance of student storytelling!
Al-Bustan will host an opening reception to celebrate the students on March 13th at Al-Bustan Gallery (310 W Master St Philadelphia, PA), from 5-9pm. The students will also be doing a short performance from 5-5:30pm.
