Oil Painting on Mineral Paper: Exploring a New Surface

March 28 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Oil Painting on Mineral Paper opens up new possibilities for mark-making, layering, lifting and experimentation.

Bring your favorite oil paints and brushes (Mineral Paper provided) and come create a small representational or abstract work on Mineral Paper.

In this class, we’ll focus on painting with oils on mineral paper, a lightweight and more affordable alternative to Yupo that responds similarly to oil paint. Working on a nontraditional surface opens up new possibilities for mark-making, layering, lifting, and experimentation that differ from canvas or panel.

Rather than step-by-step instruction, this workshop emphasizes exploration and process, offering guidance on how oil behaves on mineral paper and how to adapt familiar techniques to a less absorbent surface.

  • Painters with prior oil painting experience
  • Artists interested in trying a new surface
  • Those looking to expand their practice without committing to a full materials overhaul
