Nature Hour: Exploring our Emancipation Landscape

February 5 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us for this virtual presentation exploring the history of Lancaster Conservancy preserves associated with the Underground Railroad.

About the Presentation

Lancaster Conservancy is committed to conserving landscapes that protect natural beauty and ecologically diverse communities. Many of our nature preserves protect cultural and heritage landscapes as well, including routes and sites associated with the Underground Railroad. These stories may be hidden in the land, streams and rivers, and old roads that many of our trails follow, and they need a keen eye and environmental history sleuthing to reveal. In this Nature Hour presentation, we’ll explore the topographies of the Underground Railroad as it was used by Freedom Seekers, abolitionists, and fugitive slave law enforcers. We’ll learn how to experience our emancipation landscapes by featuring three of our preserves that connect directly to the story of the Underground Railroad and one of the most consequential periods in our nation’s history.

The Zoom link to join this presentation will be sent to attendees in the lead up to the event.
