Meeting at Hermitage Mansion
We recommend parking on Barnes Street and walking over, as Hermit Lane has been known to experience car break-ins.
Please note that there will not be restroom access during the service day.
National Trails Day is a day of celebration, service, and advocacy of our hometown trails—of which Wissahickon Valley Park has over 50 miles! This year, we’ll be improving the trail leading to Hermit’s Cave, maintaining our planting sites, and more!
All are welcome to attend, and no experience is needed. We encourage attendees to work within their own comfort level, and we always strive to accommodate needs on an individual basis. With that being said, this service day may include the following activities:
• Trail work: using long-handled tools, moving heavy objects
• Plantings: bending over, crouching/squatting
• Invasive plant removal: bending over, using long handled tools
• Litter clean-up
• Repetitive motions
We provide gloves, tools, and instruction–you just need to show up! Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and long pants, and remember to bring water with you. Detailed information and confirmation of the meeting location will be sent by email the day before the event. If you are hoping to bring a group of 5 or more people, please reach out to us first.
