Juneteenth Mural | Community Paint Days!

You’re invited to participate in a history-making mural in Germantown! The Absolute Equality- Juneteenth Celebration mural will be unveiled at this year’s 2023 Juneteenth Festival … and we need your help to make it happen!
Instruction, all supplies and paint-by-number mural panels will be provided. No painting or artistic experience is required. (See below for FAQ) All events will be hosted OUTDOORS in our side yard.
A few special dates!
Saturday, May 6th (12pm-3pm) Mt. Airy CDC will be on-site to engage with the community with a prototype of an interactive playful learning literacy story-sharing station. They are looking forward to the opportunity to promote the MACDC literacy programming and test the prototype of the Literacy Rich Niehobrohood Playful Learning Book Sharing Station. Join us!
Capital One Caf Team Paint Days: Join our Sponsor organization, Capital One Cafe and their team. Learn about their awesome financial literacy & coaching services as well! 12:00-4:00pm on the following dates:

The Mural Design | From the Artist
A mural about the release from slavery brings up obvious iconography: chains, whipping poles, picking cotton, pain, etc. As an Indigenous African American leading an organization dedicated to empowering underprivileged communities of color, it was imperative that the images and story of the mural start at a time prior to the colonization of of Africa.
