JUNETEENTH: A Day of Jubilee, an interactive historical presentation

June 19 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Please join us for an interactive historical presentation commemorating one of the most important dates in African American history.

Please join BLACK MAGIC WOMAN Productions on Thursday, June 19 at 6 pm for “JUNETEENTH: A Day of Jubilee,” an interactive historical presentation commemorating one of the most important dates in African American history.

Location: 20*20 House, 20 Lansdowne Court. Admission: Free, however RSVPs are highly recommended. Light refreshments will be served.

Did you know Abraham Lincoln actually penned two Emancipation Proclamations? Did you know there were a quarter of a million black people still enslaved after the “peculiar institution” was “abolished”? Why was the state of Texas such a hotbed of slavery after its legal end? What is General Orders, No. 3? Can you name the “Grandmother” of Juneteenth?

Come delve into the history of a holiday that is much more than bands and barbecues. Juneteenth t-shirts, cowboy boots, hats – and fans – are encouraged! Let’s educate and celebrate!

Black Magic Woman Productions grew out of a need to create opportunities for theatre artists of color. Since 2006, BMW Productions has promoted an appreciation for the African-American theatre canon. Led by playwright Renee Lucas Wayne, this group of actors, playwrights, and directors continues to develop new works, re-imagine the Classics, and provide access to theatre for underserved communities.

This programming is supported by the LEDC’s Art Committee, a volunteer group of The Lansdowne Economic Development Corporation. The mission of the Lansdowne Arts Committee is to create, foster, and promote Lansdowne’s identity as a vibrant and inspiring artistic community. The Lansdowne Art Committee is dedicated to nurturing creative expression, enhancing community engagement, stimulating economic growth, preserving and celebrating Lansdowne’s diversity, and cultivating arts education and access.

Major support for the LEDC’s Art Committee comes from the Borough of Lansdowne.
