June 2023 Yard Talk: Bug Walk and Talk – Aphids

June 7, 2023 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Join us as we learn about aphids, their unusual lives, and their many cool predators in this walk and talk with naturalist Sam Nestory.

Despite their small size, aphids rarely go unnoticed in the garden because where there’s one aphid, there’s likely hundreds! But despite their vast numbers, aphids rarely pose a significant threat to our native plant gardens, because they are one part of a larger, fascinating ecosystem. Join us as we learn about aphids, their unusual lives, and their many cool predators in this walk and talk with naturalist Sam Nestory.

Samantha Nestory is the engagement manager and naturalist at Stoneleigh: a natural garden in Villanova. After earning her master’s degree in entomology from the University of Delaware, Samantha worked in ecological horticulture at Morris Arboretum and Stoneleigh for several years before moving into her current position. Now, she develops educational programming, coordinates public events, and manages the volunteer program at Stoneleigh, using her passion for insects, plants, and people to connect and engage the community.
