“Small Walls” is all about fostering creativity, accessibility, and representation. This first edition will offer three current/recent MAP assistant artists the chance to showcase their unique styles through temporary murals across the city.
As a chosen artist, you’ll have the chance to:
Develop a written project idea and final mural concept
Produce design concepts and mockups
Participating in an artist talk panel to share your process and experience
Artists will receive $3,000, which includes artist fee and materials budget.

Black Artist Fellowship:
Background:
The fellowship, presented by TD Bank, is a testament to our commitment to fostering a vibrant arts community. With a focus on building connections and skill-building, this year’s fellowship will support 15 artists with $2,000 in unrestricted funding. Fellows will also benefit from networking opportunities, career development workshops, exhibition opportunities, and consultations with esteemed curators.
Eligibility:
Visual artists of all mediums are encouraged to apply
Must identify as Black, African American, or part of the African Diaspora
Must reside or work in the city of Philadelphia
Must have a current artistic practice
Must not have worked for Mural Arts Philadelphia in a Lead Artist capacity within a year of application date

William Still Tribute Mural:
Project Background: The selected artist will have the honor of bringing Still’s story to life on a large scale, with support from 1-2 assistant artists. Experience in painting on diverse surfaces, including rough stucco, is essential. The project will require engagement with the local community and mural production, with installation anticipated in May and June 2024.
Artist Requirements: We’re looking for an artist who:
Excels in narrative portraiture
Values thorough historical research
Has experience painting on a large scale and various surfaces
Believes in the power of social activism
Is motivated to inspire future generations through design
Printmaking by the People:
Project Overview: “Printmaking by the People” aims to reimagine the historic role of printmaking in public communication and civic dialogue. Through community-based workshops, we’ll explore the Declaration of Independence’s impact on our city and nation today, inspiring a mural to be created in 2026.
Scope of Work: Selected artists will:
Design unique workshops in collaboration with Mural Arts
Produce workshops, including securing materials and equipment
Collaborate with Mural Arts on workshop evaluation
