Healing in the Garden: Art, Plants, and Medicine at Bartram’s Garden

Join us at the Garden for a conversation about healing across time, place, and practice. Set inside America’s oldest surviving botanical garden, this special event brings together artist Terrence Gore, herbalist and urban forager Lady Danni Morinich, and Dr. Burton of Burton Wellness & Injury Center for a thoughtful discussion on the many ways nature has shaped our understanding of medicine, resilience, and care.
Moderated by WHYY’s Maiken Scott, the conversation will begin with a panel exploring art as a form of healing, the wisdom and usefulness of plants growing all around us, and the connection between traditional, alternative, and modern approaches to health. Terrence Gore will reflect on how Bartram’s Garden has influenced his artwork and his personal healing journey. Lady Danni will share insight into the medicinal and practical uses of plants found in our own backyards and public green spaces. Dr. Burton will bring a medical perspective to the conversation, connecting the body, wellness, and integrative approaches to care.
Following the panel, guests will be invited to continue the conversation outdoors with a guided plant tour of Bartram’s Garden, looking at the landscape through the lens of healing, history, and discovery. Light refreshments will be served.
ACCESSIBILITY – This event will take place in the Barn, an indoor space that is accessible via wheelchair. It is about a 2-minute walk from the main Visitor Parking Loop, ADA-accessible on a paved path at a slight incline. Gendered, multi-stall public restrooms and all-gender single restrooms, both ADA-accessible, are about a two-minute walk away.
We’re happy to make accommodations for guests with mobility limitations. Large portions of our 50+ acre botanical garden can be explored via wheelchair, though some of our paths should be used at your own discretion. If you have questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out ahead of time to info@bartramsgarden.org.
