Parking: If you’re driving, plan to park on Barnes Street and walk over, as Hermit Lane has been known to experience car break-ins. Reminder to never leave valuables behind in your car. If taking transit, the 32, 9, 65, and 27 buses all have stops within a 15-minute walking distance of our location. See map for details.

Would you like to be part of keeping Wissahickon Valley Park beautiful and sustainable? Then celebrate Halloween in your spooooookiest outfits with a native planting at Hermitage Mansion! This year’s costume theme is: 250 Years of Philly Jawn! Come dressed as a person, place, or thing from the last 250 years of Philadelphia history. (Costumes and the theme are not required, of course!)
All are welcome to attend, and no experience is needed. We encourage attendees to work within their own comfort level, and we always strive to accommodate needs on an individual basis. With that being said, this service day may include the following activities:
• Plantings: bending over, crouching/squatting, carrying up to 20 lbs, using long handled tools for digging
• Litter clean-up
We provide gloves, tools, and instruction–you just need to show up! Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and long pants, and remember to bring water with you. Detailed information and confirmation of the meeting location will be sent by email one business day before the event. If you are hoping to bring a group of 5 or more people, please reach out to us first.
Registration is required for all volunteer service days so that participants can be informed of emergency cancellations. Service days are cancelled in steady precipitation or other dangerous weather conditions. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org.
