First Walk of the Year with Eric Dahlberg and Ted Apple

January 1, 2026 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Meeting at the Valley Green Inn (see map here)
The northern parking lot can be accessed by Wises Mill Road, and the southern by Valley Green Road. Overflow parking is in the Upper Lot.
The outdoor restrooms next to the Inn should be available for use.
For the first walk of the year join FOW Trail Ambassadors Ted Apple and Eric Dahlberg for a moderately paced hike on the beautiful trails of the Wissahickon Valley. We will cover between four and six miles (depending on the group and trails chosen) as we greet the new year and enjoy unimpeded wide views of the gorge and creek through the now bare trees. Good chance to get fresh air and a bracing start to 2026.
Well behaved dogs on leashes are welcome, as are children 12 and up able to keep the pace.
Hiking boots and trekking poles are strongly recommended. Depending on the weather, trail conditions and water levels, there may be some rocky water crossings. These should be able to be traversed without getting feet wet by going from stone to stone.
Distance: 4-6 miles
Difficulty Level: Moderate (some inclines and declines, uneven surfaces)
Audience: Ages 12+
Registration is required for all events so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations.
Unless otherwise specified, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org. Visit www.fow.org for updates.
